Our 5 day Classic Salkantay Trek To Machu Picchu is absolutely amazing. We will guide you through the stunning landscape for just under 50 kilometers (just over 30 miles) to Machu Picchu.

Itinerary

Day 1 Cusco to Soraypampa :

  • We pick up from your hotel at 4:30 in the morning.
  • We drive from Cusco to Mollepapa and enjoy a nice breakfast (~ 2.5hrs).
  • Next we drive to Challacancha village which is the start of our hike.
  • We hike to Soraypampa (~ 4hrs).
  • Lunch at Soraypampa base camp.
  • We start our return hike to Humantay Lake (~ 2 hrs return).
  • Back at Soraypampa we have dinner and get ready for a good night sleep.

Day 2 Soraypampa to Chaullay :

  • Breakfast is early as this day is long and tough.
  • We hike to Salkantay pass which is the highest point Salkantay and the Humantay mountains (~ 4hrs).
  • We have a break for lunch at Huayrac Machay
  • We will slowly descend into Chaullay where our camp is all set up for you.
  • We have a well-deserved delicious dinner and a good sleep to be prepared for the next day.

Tent
Day 3 Chaullay to Lucmabamba :

  • Early breakfast to start an unforgettable day.
  • We hike to Collpa and then through the Santa Teresa valley (~ 1hr).
  • We continue hiking to Playa Sahuayaco where we will stop for lunch.
  • After lunch we continue for a short hike to Lucmabamba where we have dinner and stay the night.

Day 4 Lucmabamba to Aguas Calientes :

  • Early breakfast to start another amazing day.
  • We start hiking towards Llactapata and get a view of Machu Picchu which is only 5km away.
  • At Aobamba Valley we have lunch before we get the train from the Hidroeléctrica Route to Aguas Calientes (~ 30min).
  • We will take you to your hotel in Aguas Calientes after which you can explore town and find a nice place for dinner.

Day 5 (Part 1) Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu :

  • Wake up early and enjoy a great healthy breakfast.
  • We take the bus from Aguas Calientes to our final destination Machu Picchu (approx. 30 min).
  • Explore Machu Picchu with us as your  own tour guide (approx. 3 hrs).
  • Option to climb Huayna Picchu mountain (fee not included, only 200 people can enter daily) Note: this is an extremely steep climb.

Day 5 (Part 2) Machu Picchu to Cusco :

  • After exploring Machu Pichu, we take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes.
  • From there we take the train back to Ollantaytambo (approx. 2 hrs).
  • From Ollantaytambo we take a bus back to Cusco and drop you back to your accommodation in Cusco (approx. 3 hrs).

Do I need insect repellent?

Yes, you should bring your own insect repellent in particular for mosquitos.

Should I prepare for altitude sickness?

Yes, before arriving in Cusco you should get altitude medication (unless told otherwise by your GP). Ideally, you should arrive n Cusco at least 24-48 hours before starting any treks at altitude.

Should I bring any anti-diarrhea tablets?

Yes, if you are taking any altitude sickness medication, you should bring anti-diarrhea tables (unless told otherwise by your GP).
